For chicken, and I like El Pollo Loco, the deal is Louisiana hot sauce. I especially like Crystal brand hot sauce. I got hooked on that back in the 70s in Hollywood with Pioneer Chicken (Sunset & Fuller across the street from rock & roll Ralph's)!

If you haven't, get to a Bristol Farms or Sprouts and try Lucky Habanero salsa. It's that good. Their regular is good and has a kick, and the Dragon Lips version takes it to another level. Family owned, and delicious. In fact, I am taking a break after this to drive to Bristol Farms to get some!
We're more of a Tapatio family than Cholula, but it has its place. Have several other reco's if you like on hot sauces. Just stay away from Dave's Insanity Sauce - all the heat, none of the flavor.

Brother Bru Bru's African Pepper hot sauce is The One. (The original; not the concessional milder stuff or chipotle variants that were late in the game).
Brother Bru Bru himself was Bruce Langhorne. Studio musician (notably on Bob Dylan records in the NY era) and arguably the titular inspiration for "Mr. Tambourine Man." While that song is clearly not about any particular individual in a narrative sense, Langhorne was known as the character running around Greenwich Village with a wagon-wheel sized tambourine.
Bruce succumbed to kidney disease recently. This disease that took him inspired the hot sauce, however. He liked hot sauce but couldn't find one he liked that was salt-free. So he made his own.
It's the stuff.

i think this is a great spice product to use for people who don't like immense heat.
it is called NANAMI TOGARASHI or seven spice. it has a 2 types of pepper, some
seaweed, some orange peel, black and white sesame seeds and ginger.
it comes from japan where people like a bit of zip and not massive heat. in context, you would put this on
a ricebowl dish or in ramen or udon.
a few shakes gives a pop, 10 shakes gives a bit of heat.
i always carry a bottle in my stuff or in my inside jacket pocket.
blandness comes into life in odd places and you don't want to be unprepared!!

I do all my grocery shopping at Bob's - mostly because of the butcher, but also their rye bread is great. And, because I don't buy anything already packaged, I get all my sandwich stuff (cheese, turkey, cole slaw) from the deli - I've got the whole thing choreographed. I order everything at the deli, then go to the Butcher and order, then do my shopping in the store, and when I come back, everything's ready and packaged for me :)

Tabasco is a thin vinegary hot sauce. It is good on oysters. But it is not good on Mexican food.
Sadly, in many chain Mexican restaurants, Tabasco has marketed their way in, so you can't get Cholula or even Tapatio, which is close to Cholula. Luckily in LA (which is, of course, part of Mexico) you can usually always find it.
But Tabasco is not hearty enough for Mexican cuisine. You want a Cholula or a Valentina (I saw this sauce more often in Mexico than Cholula).
Sometimes, though, you can ask the waiter to ask the kitchen if they have any Cholula. The cooks usually have some for their own use.

I was working at The Warehouse in Vancouver (Bryan Adams' studio) and one of the assistants brought it over to me. I flipped. They said you gotta tell Bob Rock, who was working downstairs, apparently he's got a relationship. So I got to meet Bob Rock and he had them send me a case that arrived by the time I got back to NYC. I phoned them up to say thanks, couldn't have been nicer.
I wouldn't eat eggs without the green for a year. And yes, the other two are just ok.

Since I left California I've had trouble finding decent Mexican food and try nearly every place I see.
The salsa in the restaurants here sucks. So I make my own at home.
But there was one place, in downtown Norfolk, VA, called (strangely enough), California Burrito. My first thought was "Yeah. Sure.". But I went in anyway and not only did they have great burritos, they had their homemade VERDE hot sauce...which was top drawer. I'm not a big fan of green sauce either. And this shit is great on everything. Including Chicken AND Tuna salad. (Which, historically, requires Texas Pete...which is ubiquitous here).
I just noticed I have a few medium shakes left in the bottle.Time to head back to Norfolk.

I love me some hot sauce so ok i'll bite and i agree with tabasco. The fact they age it gives it that extra pop that other hot sauces don't have. No to be a shill but there's a local brand here in Baltimore called Huckle's. All hand made, local, artisanal and all the buzzwords. Anyways, the long and short of it is their late-harvest jalapeno sauce is great. I'd put it up against anything (other than tabasco). I also just look for stuff to put it on. Anyways, if you're interested, i'd happily send you a bottle, because you can't buy it online yet (and i am not affiliated with these guys, i just love hot sauce).

What a perfect brand name! "Gringo Bandito" First off there are Holland's blond tresses on the label. But more significantly is the nod (perhaps unintentional) to the fact that since 1967 gringos have come to believe that "bandito" is the Spanish word for bandit. It's not. It's the Italian word for bandit. But "bandido" doesn't rhyme with "Frito" and language rudiments don't count for anything in marketing.
That said, I'm going to add a bottle of Gringo Bandito green to my condiment shelf and many thanks for the heads up and enjoy what I hope is Holland's two-part joke on the label as well as the contents.

I'm your age and a salsa junkie since moving to Colorado for school and discovering Huevos Ranchero (flour tortillas only) for hangover mitigation.
I was into the reds for most of these years, used to make my own and moved through various high end gourmet favorites over the years.
But, in the last few years its the greens that really turn me on.

I have been addicted to the Traditional Red for 5 years now. I remember the day the Green was released, I ordered it the first day. It is good but I still prefer the Red. I do keep both on hand because the green is definitely better with some foods. In a few weeks, they release a limited edition sauce which is different from the normal 3 they offer. No one can do Lafayette as well as the great Daveed Diggs...saw the original cast before they left last year. Like the album, mind blowing. Friends tried to convince me to scalp the tickets and use the profit to go on a grand vacation ( they were asking that much in NYC); so glad I didn't.
We laughed. Teared up. Swelled with pride (remember, 44 was still commander in Chief).
A play, a playwright and a concept so perfect for its time. Unforgettable.

Bob: Totally second your comments on Hamilton in LA. I've seen it twice and my wife Cathy has gone four times including this past Sunday night. We play the music all the time. It's so perfectly timed for what's happening in this country today. By the way, I bought "Hair" in previews in New York and brought it to LA where it played for several years at the Aquarius Theater on Sunset (now the Nickelodeon). That show was perfectly timed for 1967-69 with it's hippy cast and anti-Vietnam theme. I have incredible memories and stories from producing that.

I'm a mother of three in the UK, one working in the music business, one on an Andrew Lloyd Webber scholarship at Arts Educational Schools (Musical Theatre), the youngest reading Drama and English Literature at Exeter University. When my son and younger daughter were still with the South London Youth Theatre, they became huge fans of Lin Manuel Miranda and 'In the Heights'. Then news reached them of 'Hamilton'. Within a week, the entire company - kids aged 14 to 18 - had memorised the musical, and started doing impromptu versions of some of the songs. It became their obsession. None of them was that interested in American history. They could barely give a toss about British history. But something about the concept, the whiplash lyrics, the music, the stance of the piece got under their skin. It has been extraordinary to watch its effect on them.
We would have gone to New York to see it, but who could get tickets. So the kids signed up for priority booking for the London run, and we joined the lottery last Christmas. We were lucky enough to bag four tickets at normal prices, in decent seats, in a London theatre which is still being rebuilt after 'Billy Elliot'. We see it in January. I have been a parent for 29 years, and I have never known a single obsession like it. The kids begin to weep with excitement at mere mention of the fact that the date is now looming. The anticipation is tsunamic.?
I couldn't be more familiar with the songs, ?having spent the past couple of years listening to kids going mad for them. I am no hysterical fan myself, having spent my earlier life on the road with artists from McCartney to Elton to Madonna and Michael Jackson. But there's a tremor in the bones that reminds me this is different, and life-changing. We know that we will leave with no doubt in our minds that musical theatre has been changed forever; that it's not now 'all about' the jukebox genre, and that punters will no longer take a risk on songs they've never heard and might not like. Lin Manuel Miranda has achieved a remarkable and irreversible thing. He has challenged stereotypes, invited the world to open its eyes, hearts and ears, and has proved that 'everything' HASN'T 'been done' before.

The writing is so good! My seven year old son is obsessed and now so am I. It's all we've listen to in the car for months. He likes to skip around and play his favorite tracks - occasionally I play the full album after he goes to bed so I can listen to the story in order. I wonder if I would have made time for this if my son hadn't insisted. Of course he was turned on through a buddy of his. Now we have to go see it, and it's going to cost me an arm and a leg, but I'm down because I'm more than happy to support this work of art.

Sure they roared. It's about time we all roared together. Diane and I saw this two years ago with the original cast and paid a scalper's ransom for the nosebleed seats and it was worth every penny. Changed my whole outlook on rap as a delivery system and an art form. Wait till you start hearing tissue paper and cheeseburgers hawked behind rap lyrics!
But the American history. The educational possibilities with jaded kids in urban schools, mathematics, you name it.
Lin Miranda is from another planet...and it's called earth. The Invasion came from within and it's right on time. Thanks for rekindling the fire I had when I came out of the theater Bob. I joke with my daughters that this show has the WORST elevator pitch I can imagine--A Hiphop musical with colorblind casting telling the story of the founder of the US treasury...This is an afterschool special we make the kids watch for extra credit(and they would hate it) Except this show is powerful and engaging. The minute I heard the Hamilton soundtrack, five songs in, I realized this was the greatest piece of artwork created in my lifetime. I'm an entertainment attorney in practice for almost three decades and a self-professed musical theater geek. I don't say this lightly. What has impressed me more than anything was that when Miranda was writing it, Obama was president and at the beginning of that hopey, changey time. Miranda, most likely, did not foresee that this work of art would be the voice of the Resistance. But it is. It is the story of how we rose up and beat back a monarchy. How we fought for the freedom of immigrants, minorities and "others". And if people listen closely, they will know that the world sometimes turns upside down, but we can right it.
Oh...and if you didn't know, Miranda is a big fan of the hilarious podcast "My Brother, My Brother & Me" and incorporated a couple of references from that podcast into the soundtrack. Yet another reason why he's a treasure!

Yknow, I always enjoy Kid Rock's Stern interviews. Every time I come away with the same conclusion: "I like the guy. He seems cool, he puts on a great show; it's a shame I don't like his music, but 'two outta three ain't bad'".
I actually read your take on it before I got to hear it (something I usually try to avoid; just like a movie I'm really interested in, I try to avoid knowing too much about it before I go to the theater) and based on your Letter I figured I'd enjoy this one as much (or more) than any of the previous ones. But I gotta say, this time around he came across like a real asshole. The arrogance ("Man, read a book"...as if Howard should assume we already all know how many tattoos he has?), the stupidity (he obviously just learned the word "narrative"), the ignorance (the NYT is "gay"? Look, say you don't like it, but what kind of jackass would use that word to describe it in 2017?). The showboating while he mangled "Ramble On", almost as if he was giving us a gift?...it was so embarrassing it made ME uncomfortable.
It seems like he's gone backwards. Maybe this was the "real Kid Rock" all along; he certainly talks like he's over trying to pretend like he cares. And he certainly doesn't have to. But for the first time ever I freaking hated the guy. It was hard to finish the interview. I questioned if it was my personal politics getting in the way, but no, they aren't news to me. He was unbearable.

And should we hold people to some "poverty authenticity" or disregard their work? Without boring you with the details of my very minor relationship with KR, I'll say this: he was very kind to me, I could tell he genuinely loves music (all kinds) and he had zero airs. Once I ran into him backstage where he was sitting with a woman…and the FIRST thing he did was politely introduce me to his then-fiance…demonstrating manners far beyond what a lot of your respondents have shown.

Wow, surprised how many split reactions there are. By all means no one would guess I'm the type to be a fan, but I am, I loved him in high school and it just kind of stuck. I don't know all of his songs, and I haven't been to a show, but there's a genuineness he exudes and that goes a long way with me. I applaud him for admitting he didn't grow up poor. Back in the 90's I ran the backstage catering contract for the Target Center in Minneapolis. Metallica opened their Load tour with a few days of practice and a three night stand. We worked there for almost a week feeding the crews and musicians. One night the tour took everyone bowling... all the crews, the musicians, management, etc. Kid Rock was on our team. When asked how he could be such a good bowler his response was "Man, my name is Bob and I haven't been a rock star all my life!". He rolled like he was part of the catering operation vs. a performer. Just a good member of the team. I wasn't down with all his "fucks" on Stern... but I am old now.

Isn't this what artists are supposed to do... challenge us? I may be miles apart from Bob/Kid politically but I can respect him and do. He's dabbled in rock, country, rap, and hip hop with varying degrees of chart success and has collaborated widely and creatively with a variety of musicians, earning their respect. He was also a pioneer at fighting scalpers and offered low-dough tour shows that directly benefited his fans and helped build a true bond with his audience. He's stepped up big for veterans and has traveled the world to entertain our troops. On the business side under the tutelage of Punch Andrews, he was an early believer in controlling his catalog and songwriting which has rewarded him handsomely. Back home in Michigan, he's a guy who puts his money to work on a local level in a state where that matters. Underneath his scruffy and occasionally polarizing exterior beats the heart of an artist and a man who cares.

The first time I saw Kid Rock was at a Govt Mule show at The Beacon. I hadn't been a fan of the media persona erected about him. He walked out to Warren (Haynes) shook his hand and then sang my favorite live version of "Cant You See" ever. A year later I caught a show in Atlanta. He is like a party with many appetizers. Some you gobble up and some you take a bite of and fold the uneaten part in the cocktail napkin. A year or so after that I banged into him at the Sky Club in Atlanta and we both got shook up. He took my bag and held my arm and walked me to a chair. We both took a minute. I thanked him and introduced myself. He sai "I'm Bob. You Kay? Yup. But I'd be much better if he sang a bar or two of "Cant You See". Man looked me straight in the eye and said "Beacon?" I said I'd converted that night. He said something like I didn't look like a Mule fan and I said u didn't think he looked like an accountant. My husband saw him at The Fontanel a few weeks ago. Said it was outstanding. He's a good man who puts his money where his mouth is and he is direct and smart and deeply empathetic and compassionate.

Obviously you have never been to a Kid Rock concert. It is more like a cover band concert he has so little original music of his own.
He gets the crowd going by using his divisive talk and telling everyone to fuck off. From single moms (stop having babies)(never mentioning maybe the guys should step up) to not wanting to pay to help someone who needs help because you know they all are just milking the system. As he uses every swear word available then says we should be able to call Him by his name. I guess this is where he brings in the religion angle. Sad so many follow him and his divisive talk.
He was not kidding when he said he would run. He was not able to stand the kick back he got. Under all the I am tough talk, he is not.
I work at an arena and watched 5 Kid Rock concerts. His fans are all drunk and the arena is full of pot smoke. He fills up arenas because his tkts are cheap, I give you that, only way he can fill it up.
